Project Description

Carrying over 23,000 vehicles a day, NE 8th Street is an important route for Bellevue and regional commuters, and it provides a corridor for several utilities. Ensuring it is a safe and reliable transportation route is a priority for the City of Bellevue.

The City of Bellevue has prepared the design of a new culvert for Kelsey Creek at Northeast Eighth Street. Replacement of the culvert will ensure the long-term safety of the roadway and improve fish passage.

Project Design

The city studied various options to replace the culvert and selected a pre-cast box culvert because it:

  • Is large enough to handle peak flows
  • Is relatively easy to construct
  • Can be built in phases
  • Requires a shorter construction period than other designs
  • Enables habitat and fish passage improvement

Staying Informed During Construction

A variety of methods will be used to inform the public prior to and during construction. These include:

  • Electronic message boards near the work zone
  • Project signage
  • Website updates
  • Social media updates
  • Traffic advisory updates
